Sleek Ponytails and Messy Buns

Sleek Ponytail -

1. Using a nylon and boar bristle brush to smooth strands.

2. Smooth the sides with product to tighten up the sides.

3. Spay on a finishing hairspray for extra hold.

4. Then I secured the ponytail with a bungee.

"Using a bungie hair tie, which has a hook on each end, allows you to pull your hair up without transferring your ponytail to each hand as you secure it, which is ineviatably what causes bumps in your slicked-back style." - celebrity hairstylist Dominick Pucciarello

6. I then Polished up the pony.

7.Finally i took a small section of hair from underneath and wrapped it around the bungee to conceal its appearance for a chic, pulled-together look.

Below is a picture of my final look ;

I am quite happy with the way it turned out however I found it hard to completely tighten it to the head as my dolly's hair kept on bulging up. I think it was a matter of having to apply more wax/gel product for it to tighten down and for underneath the ponytail to be tight back.

Messy bun (1)

Starting off with the easiest one and messiest one ;

1) I randomly placed the parting however not in the middle as I feel like this gives it a messier look.

2) Leaving two strands down in the front, Pull all the hair towards the back of the hair into a low ponytail.

3) Without securing the ponytail, twist the hair around and into a desired messy bun.

4) Secure the bun down using bobby pins.

5) Finally pull out strands of hair to give it an even messier look and spray some hairspray to set.

I am happy with the turn out and I feel asif this look would be seen on the catwalk. I randomly placed the bun and just went with the flow which is what a very messy bun is all about. You cant re create the exact look twice.

Messy bun (2)

This is the second messy bun I created.

1) I started off by creating a middle parting. I french plaited a small section of each front side of the middle parting. Once I reached just about the ear, I plaited down normally. Secure this sections with a band.

2) Taking these two sections to the back of the head, I created a ponytails and added in these plaits.

3) Then I twisted the ponytail into a bun. I secured this with bobbypins.

4) Finally I pulled out some sections and loosened the plait followe by using hairspray to set it.

This one is definitely my favourite look and I will start to wear it myself more often. Plaits have been on trend for quite some time now and so have messy buns. So plaits and a messy bun in one is perfect.

Final Hairstyle

I definitely would not call this a messy bun however our teacher Kanika showed us a video on how to create this bun below.

Here is a link to the video I followed and how I created this romantic bun.

I love the way this turned out. Yes it is quite bridal and romantic however it is very easy to do and looks very complicated and professional which is nice.
