Eyebrow bleaching / Eyebrow blocking

This lesson we did Eyebrow bleaching and Eyebrow blocking. Bleaching is where the eyebrows are lightened and not covered, in this case using concealer. Blocking is where you try to completely cover the brow to add a higher brow for example for drag makeup they would do that, or else just for fashion as a different statement to be browless.

Eyebrow Blocking / Eyebrow Bleaching

Main things needed to achieve these looks are ;

- A glue stick (the basic kind you use from any stationers)

- Translucent concealer powder that matches the color of your models skin

- Concealer or foundation that matches the color of your models skin and for darker brows, a dark warm tone is needed too

Below are pictures of Holly's Demo (they are not great quality photos however I was the model therefore I was not able to take any photos)

For the ' Bleached ' Brows Holly used the Mac concealer pallet in light. She started off using warm tones. She used a disposible wand and picked up the product onto the brush. Brushing the brows in all directions to really get into the under layer of the brows. Starting with the warm tones helped cover the darkness of the brows. She made it clear that we should stick to the brows and not work around them as it will look messy. For bleached brows, you still want to be able to see the texture of the hair.

She then went in with the more yellow concealer from the Mac pallet. This gave the brows more texture and made them look more 3D.

Eye Brow Blocking - Starting off with brushing the brows upwards, this is a very important step for the brows to be able to stick as close to the skin as possible and not pop out. Pulling the skin up tight will help achieve this. Apply the glue against the grain of the eyebrows. This step will ensure that the eyebrow hairs get coated down to the roots. Run the gluestick tube from the outside of your brows toward the inside, making sure to cover your eyebrows in glue, apply quite a lot of pressure and make sure to go in the direction of the hair. Do this over again about 3-4 times. It is important to have a enough glue on for the brows to actually look blocked. Then put on concealer. Starting with the warmer colours to lighten the darkness of the brows. Then powder and layer on the closest colour to your models skin tone. Repeat this a couple of times until the brow is completely blocked.

We then went on to trying this ourselves. I loved doing this however I found it quite challenging. My model had the darkest and thickest eyebrows. Below is a picture of her makeup I did a while ago, her eyebrows are naturally that dark and thick.

However I managed to work with them and I loved the challenge. Below are some photos of my work ;

I did it the first time and had to remove it as I had put some foundation on her skin before hand and when I put the glue on, It started to peel. Therefore I found it much easier without foundation on and I just applied it afterwards which worked better for me. Also after applying the first warm tone colour I realised that since her eyebrows are so dark and think, I needed to apply an even darker warm tone. So I used a flat concealer brush and Mac full coverage in the shade NW35 and I applied a layer ontop of the lighter layer by dabbing it on to get full coverage. I then powdered ontop of this and went back in with her skin colour shade. This worked well for me.

I think I managed to achieve the look we needed to achieve pretty well especially because my models eyebrows were so dark. with Flash they look more blocked however then her skin looked very pink. However, I think that in natural light this would look much better. I will try this look again and incorporate a fashion makeup look to it.
