Vogue Magazine

The first issue of Vogue saw the light in 1892 in America.

The magazine’s volume became thicker and its main focus was turned on women. Naturally, the price was raised as well.

In 1916, when the First World War made impossible Vogue deliveries to the Old World, the printing was started in England. This decision proved to be successful and in 1920 the first issue of French Vogue was released.

In1932 the American Vogue for the first time ever had placed a color photography on its cover (earlier it was exclusively given for drawings).

In 1960-s the American Vogue under the leadership of Diana Vriland had become the symbol of a new era – more creative, emancipated and sexy.

Another important period in American Vogue history was when Anna Wintour became its Chief Editor. Her talent, will and efficiency, reflected in The Devil Wears Prada movie, had finally turned Vogue into Nr1 Fashion Magazine of the World, not just reflecting fashion trends, but effectively shaping them.

Vogue has been the fashion bible for women all over the world for years. People in the fashion industsry have gained increasing amount of attention after being featured or credited in this coveted magazine. After Anna Wintour named Karolina Kurkova the "next supermodel" her career nearly skyrocketed from there.

Models in the covers of Vogue have changed so much over the years. In the 1900's they were beautifully drawn women and in the 90's the supermodels were all over them. But in recent years celebrities have been taking away the covers from the models because they simply sell better. Linda, Naomi, and Christy are history and the supermodels are said to be over but last year in 2007 Vogue US released a cover with the title of "The World's Next Top Models....... Fashion's 10 New Superstars." This may be considered the comeback of the supermodels becoming household names.

Vogue’s success in attracting its audience, results in continual high readership and therefore it does not widely try to appeal to other audiences, such as men. Many of the women who read the Vogue magazine, particularly those perhaps who are not regular readers may buy Vogue for aspiration and distraction purposes. Although they are not being able to afford the clothes and products being advertised, it gives them something to aspire towards to, or perhaps an insight into that lifestyle. While reading the magazine, the readers can feel as if they had more money, or lived the model lifestyle, reading about the lives of Kate Moss, Sienna Miller and all the others in this 'Glamour world'.
