Shampoo&Conditioning and Curly Blowdry
This lesson we learnt how to Shampoo and Condition the hair the proper way and used our class mates as our clients. Therefore it was also our first time in class working on each other. We were able to do any kind of blowdry on our mode. We learnt techniques and Kanika showed us a video and we took some notes down.
We spoke about the main techniques which are -
Effleurage Rotary Friction Petrissage These quick small circular movements stimulate the hair and therefore make it grow. 1. Effleurage is a technique you can use on all hair types It is used during shampooing and conditioning to spread the shampoo This is a smoothing, stroking movement which start and finishes the massage routine and relaxes the client. 2. Rotary. Technique used for shampooing Using the pads of the fingers its round circular movement Stimulates the scalp Removes dirt and grease Can be used on all hair types when shampooing 3. Friction. Light quicker movements used when shampooing to stimulate the scalp Do not use this technique on long or sparse hair Ideal on short or thick hair. 4. Petrissage. Used when conditioning or applying scalp treatments This is a deep kneading massage movement which stimulates the scalp Do not use on long hair or tangling may occur
Whilst watching the video, we listed down important things to remember
1. Hygiene & Client comfort
2. Consult client about their hair type ; how often they wash and style it
3. Contra indication - Check condition of their hair and sculpt
4. Protect the clients clothing
5. Chek temperature of water on the inside of your wrist whilst asking the client if its okay
6. Choose the correct products for the clients hair
7. Wash hair using gentle movements using fingertips
8. Use gentle friction to deep clean (using circular movements)
9. Usr a wide tooth comb to section the hair if applying a treatment. Apply the tratment from the bottom and work upwards.
10. Rinse out the treatment thurrely
11. Remove water by dabbing it with a towl.
12. Blowdry, Style and finish offering aftercare advise.
So I then went on to following these techniques to wash my classmates hair. She has very curly natural hair and it was my first ever time blowdrying someone elses hair. I washed it twice with loreal coconut shampoo and once I applied the conditioner, I left it in for about 5 minutes.
I then went on to styling it. Since her hair is natural very curly, I chose to do a curly blowdry. To smoothen it out and add glamorous curls instead (somewhat like Kate Middleton's signature hairstyle. I also rolled up and pinned each section up so that the curls would hold for longer.

<----- Inspired by this picture .. keeping in mind that Kate's hair is naturally fairly straight whereas my models hair is very curly
Here are some pictures of before and during the process.

Being my first time, I think I managed to section this quite well. I tried to keep it quite neat.

<--- This is how it looked right after I removed the pins. I then took some sections an blowdried them out to make it softer and look as if it is seamless and blended.

So here was final look. I loved this lesson as I really enjoyed working on a friend rather than the dolly. I found that it was easier as the hair was much more handable and easier to control.
