The Perfect Red lip, Ombré & Glittery lip

Editorial lips, ombré lips and a Glittery lip

Holly started off with a demo for us. She sprayed down her models face to prep and moisturise it as a good base. NW45 foundation evenly applied around. Very important to have a nice smooth clean face to bring out the lips more. Holly spoke to us about a lip erase by Mac, it is used when for example you want to change from one bold lip colour to a nude colour, it will block out any redness left on the lip to prep it for the nude colour.

Holly then lightly powdered the models skin with a translucent powder. She then added a light layer of mascara and brushed out the brows with a dark brown. Going onto the lips, Starting off with a Mac Lip primer and lip balm to moisturise lips and condition them. Then, using the dark concealer palette by Mac and a fluffy brush to line around the lips in order for them to pop more and look smoother. Taking brick lip liner by Mac and making sure that it is very well sharpened. Her preferred way is to start from the cupid's bow first. Since her model had big lips which didn't need to be enhanced, she lined the lip slightly further in from her lip line in order for it to look more flattering. She also used the side of the lip liner pencil to make it appear smooth.

She kept her hand resting on the chin to keep it steady. For the bottom lip, she lined the centre and filled in the centre and then worked her way outwards. For the sides, she spoke about pulling the sides out abit so that you are in more control. She then filled in the whole lip with the lip liner, asking her model to open her mouth to make sure to fill in the inner corners too. She then took the red lip palette by Mac and taking ruby woo and a bobby brown lip brush she starting filling in the lips with the colour all over. She mixed abit of ruby woo and russian red to achieve the perfect colour.

hen using a translucent powder and applied it on top of the lipstick in order for it to appear matte. Finally she took the dark concealer palette again and went over the outline to smoothen it all out. Ombré lips She then kept the same lip colour on and just took vino lip liner by Mac which is a dark vampy colour and she started filling in the corners of the lips with this liner and taking it forward (towards the centre of the lips). She did each corner first and then lined the middle of the lips last. She then look diva lipstick by Mac and a lip brush and started blending the colours together. Finally she took the lighter red colour again and patted it onto the middle section of the lips to make it all blend and look smooth. Finally she used neon orange pigment by Mac and placed a tissue under the lips to catch any fall out, she took a fluffy brush with the pigment and applied it to the centre. This was the final look of the lips she created.

I then went on to trying this out myself. I also worked on Natalie, the same person Holly worked on.

Above is a picture of my before and after of the first stage. I used ruby woo lip liner and worked using the technique holly showed us by starting from the centre and working my way outwards, also filling the whole lip in with the lip liner. I then took a mac 318 lip brush and using the red's mac lip palette, I mixed ruby woo and mac Red togethere and filled the lip in. I then cleaned up the edges using NW45 foundation as I didnt want to lighten around her lips as such.

After this I then took plum lip liner and I began to try out the ombre lips for the first time. I started lining the outer corners and filling in. I then went on to lining the upperlip and blending downwards. I then took mac cyber lipstick with a lip brush and deepend the edges up with this lipstick (where the plum was).

Above is what I achieved. The first image is with flash and the second is without. Overall I am pretty happy with it however unlike what holly did, I feel like I did not manage to achieve a very obvious ombre look.. mine seems more subtle. Next time I would like to try it out using an even darker lip liner like holly used to make it more obvious that it is an ombre lip.

I then tried it out again. Below is a picture.

I think that the ombrè definitely shows out more here. I used the same technique and colours however I focused more on getting the darker product on well and blending and I love the outcome.

Holly then went on to showing us how to create a glittery lip - Below is an image of her work she did very quickly.

She used Mac lip mixers (liquid lipstick) deppotted into muji boxes. Taking the black lip mixer and placing it all over the lips using a lip brush. Using Mac 3D Glitter on top and taking a water based mixing medium.

We spoke about different mixing medium's and what they are used for.

Eyeliner mixing medium (glittery eye)

Lash mixing medium (coloured mascara)

Alcohol based mixing medium (used for body)

Gel based mixing medium (used for the body)

Water based mixing medium (safe for the face)

Them, taking some glitter pigment (black 3D) and then mixing it with the mixing medium in a pot, she took a fluffy brush and a tissue (placing it right under the lip) and pressed it on using a fluffy brush. Using a mixing medium makes it a lot less messy as it will stick on rather than fall out everywhere. She made sure to follow the natural lip shape and did not go all the way to the edge with the glitter as she said you still want to keep the neat edges. Therefore if you're creating a red glittery lip, use red lipstick followed by a red pigment and so on.

I then went on to trying a glitter lip muself. This was so much fun, I loved doing it. Below is a picture of my final result -

I created the base using mac black trac and a lip brush (318 by mac) and I applied it evenly around the lips. I started off with the edges and worked myself in. I found it quite challenging to make the edges very neat as with black everything shows up! I used the concealer select cover up in NC25 by mac to clean up the edges with a concealer brush and this really helped me achieve the sharp edge. I then did the same as holly. Took a fluffy brush and the glitter and applied it evenly. I then took a disposable mascara wand and brushed off all the glitter that fell onto the skin. I think I did pretty well for my first try however I do wish that I packed on the glitter more as unlike holly's, mine has a couple of spaces. However I do love that I managed to get the vlack very vibrant.
